L’acquarello è per sua natura leggero e precario, sensibile ai cambiamenti di temperatura, luce e umidità, dimostrando che ciò che un artista produce con questa tecnica esiste come all’interno d’un microcosmo. Con l’acquarello è possible catturare al meglio la luce e la bellezza degli elementi naturali della Terra con una eccezionale sottigliezza di risultati. I pigmenti dell’acquarello, in origine derivati da rocce e da altri elementi naturali, sono direttamente connessi agli elementi della Terra. L’acqua, quale elemento centrale di questo medium, fluisce sulla carta dell’artista come farebbe un ruscello o una goccia d’acqua, o come s’alza una marea tra sponde, rocce e spiagge. Questo microcosmo richiede una speciale attenzione da parte dell’artista e, come la Terra stessa, possiede una sua particolare fragilità.

Watercolours are by nature light and impermanent, sensitive to changes of temperature, light and humidity, which underlines the fact that what a watercolour painter produces on a sheet of paper exists in its own microcosm. It has been widely observed that through this particular technique of painting, the varied light and beauty of Earth’s natural elements and events can be captured and contained with a rare degree of subtlety. Watercolour pigments, derived from rocks and other natural substances, are directly connected to the Earth’s elements. Water, as the core medium of watercolour painting, flows on any artist’s paper like a stream or a drop of water, or as a tide flows along banks, rocks and beaches. This microcosm requires careful handling for, like the Earth itself, it is fragile; yet, a watercolour’s fragility and clarity mirror our own lives.
